Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Good morning. As he announced a few weeks ago, John Meier will be stepping down from his position as Lafayette’s Provost at the end of the current academic year so that he can return to his faculty position in the College’s mathematics department.

The College has retained AGB Search to help lead the search for Lafayette’s next Provost. Founded by the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges in 2010, AGB Search is the only firm that specializes in all aspects of executive search exclusively for higher education institutions. The firm has insight into the qualifications crucial for effective leadership in higher education.

AGB Search team members working on Lafayette’s Provost search process will include Peggy Plympton, who served as a vice president at both Lehigh and Bucknell; Concetta M. Stewart, who served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Mercy College; and Anne Hoffman, who has worked in the executive search field for more than 20 years.

I am working with the Faculty Governance Committee, who is establishing the selection process for faculty representatives on the search committee. Once finalized, the full search committee will be announced along with a web address that will provide periodic updates about the search process.

Open listening sessions with AGB Search representatives are scheduled as follows:

  • For faculty: Monday, Oct. 16, 4:15-5 p.m., via Zoom
  • For anyone in the campus community: Thursday, Oct. 19, 4:15-5 p.m., via Zoom

I also invite you to share your ideas and perspective on the search directly with AGB Search through this confidential survey, which will remain open through Monday, Oct. 30.

As we embark on an inclusive search process for our next Provost, we encourage and welcome input from all members of the community.

To great things ahead,

President Nicole Hurd
