Faculty who need to cancel a class session due to inclement weather, illness, conference travel, or other circumstances can choose to reschedule the class at another time, or assign additional instructional activities, for an equivalent amount of missed class time  (i.e. 50 min, 75 min) in order to remain in compliance with the U.S. Department of Education’s federal credit hour standard.

To reschedule a class session:

  1. Consult with students to identify a make-up time that works for the class. Since the semester is underway, students may have other obligations (i.e. work study) that are not reflected in Banner course schedules.
  2. Reserve a room (if meeting in person) through the College’s online scheduling system at ems.lafayette.edu. Directions can be found here or you can reach out to your department/program administrative assistant for assistance.
  3. Notify students promptly once the date, time, and location have been confirmed.

If you have questions about the federal course credit policy, please reach out to the Associate Provost of Curriculum, Markus Dubischar.
