The Art Department at Lafayette College invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History (3/3 teaching load), beginning July 2026. This is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for a second year contingent upon curricular need and a successful performance review. We seek a candidate qualified to teach medieval art; the ability to teach Islamic art and architecture is preferred. The successful candidate will teach the first half of our introductory Western art survey (ancient through medieval), as well as upper-level courses in medieval art and, ideally, Islamic art and architecture.
The Art Department includes both Art History and Studio Art. We welcome applications from candidates with prior teaching experience who demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion, curricular development, pedagogical innovation, and the effective use of technology. A Ph.D. in Art History or related field is required by the start of the appointment.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, a sample syllabus, and three confidential letters of recommendation through Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/182066. The cover letter should address how the applicant’s teaching will support Lafayette College’s commitment to diversity and inclusion articulated in the College’s diversity statement. Review of applications will begin March 6, 2026 and continue until the position is filled. Inquiries can be directed to the Search Committee Chair, Nestor Gil (giln@lafayette.edu).
