The Department of Government and Law at Lafayette College invites applications for a tenure-track position in American Politics at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing July 1, 2026. The Department seeks candidates specializing in U.S. Public Law, with research and teaching expertise in law and society, constitutional law, and civil rights. Research programs that focus on law through the lenses of politics and power, as well as additional expertise in American political development and social movements, are especially welcome.
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in political science or demonstrate the Ph.D. is near completion. The successful candidate will teach Introduction to U.S. Politics, Law and Society, and other intermediate and advanced courses in their areas of expertise, including one or more courses in the Department’s constitutional law offerings. The successful candidate will also be expected to make a contribution to the College’s interdisciplinary programs and maintain an active research agenda. The Department especially welcomes applications from candidates who will contribute to Lafayette’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. The teaching load during the first year is four courses (normally two each semester) and five courses each year thereafter.
