The Lafayette College Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position within the environmental engineering subdiscipline of civil engineering. The proposed position start date is July 2025. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a related discipline by July 1, 2025. The successful candidate will possess:
• enthusiasm for teaching and interest in offering hands-on courses in civil and environmental engineering and courses covering topics in sustainability, and/or the environment that contribute more broadly to students’ course of study at the  college;
• the ability to communicate complex, technical concepts to students and;
• the potential to develop a research program that involves undergraduate students in meaningful research experiences and produces peer-reviewed publications.
Particular consideration will be given to candidates with relevant professional experience, professional engineering licensure, teaching experience, and/or experience conducting research with undergraduate students.

Lafayette College began offering a civil engineering program in 1866 and the College is a nationally recognized leader in undergraduate engineering education. The program offers students a superior education in engineering and the liberal arts. This educational experience is accomplished by focusing on excellence in teaching, placing strong emphasis on student-faculty interaction, and by providing opportunities for students to take courses in a wide number of disciplines, study abroad, engage in research, and participate in hands-on design projects. Faculty members teach the equivalent of four courses in their first year and five courses per year thereafter. This tenure-track position provides a unique opportunity to mentor students at one of the nation’s highly-ranked undergraduate-only institutions offering ABET-accredited engineering degrees. In addition to four discipline-specific B.S. engineering programs and an A.B. engineering studies program, Lafayette offers a B.S. interdisciplinary engineering program (Integrative Engineering) that enables students to develop expertise and skills in systems methods and apply those skills in areas of robotics, bioengineering, environment, and energy. The faculty in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering play a vital role in offering and maintaining this interdisciplinary program.
