Lafayette College is a leader in undergraduate engineering education and has offered a civil engineering program since 1866. Since its inception, the program has emphasized superior education in engineering and the liberal arts, placing a strong emphasis on student-faculty interaction. This educational experience is accomplished through a focus on excellence in teaching and by providing opportunities for students to take courses in a wide number of disciplines, study abroad, engage in research, and participate in hands-on design projects. Faculty members teach the equivalent of four courses in their first year and five courses per year thereafter, including introductory and capstone engineering courses and courses that contribute to Lafayette’s Common Course of Study. This tenure-track position provides a unique opportunity to mentor students at one of the nation’s highly ranked undergraduate-only institutions offering ABET-accredited engineering degrees. Further information about the department can be found at http://ce.lafayette.edu/.

In recent years Lafayette’s engineering programs have been ranked in the top 20 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report among undergraduate-focused institutions. In 2019, Lafayette began offering an interdisciplinary engineering program enabling students to focus in areas including robotics, bioengineering, environment, and energy. The faculty in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering play a central role in offering and maintaining this program.
