Lafayette College in Easton, PA, announces a full-time, tenure-track position in the Department of Religious Studies at the rank of assistant professor, beginning July 1, 2020, with specialization in religious traditions of East Asia. Applicants should additionally have demonstrable competence to teach an introductory course in world religions, other Religious Studies courses, and other courses in their area(s) of expertise that will contribute to the curriculum of the interdisciplinary program in Asian Studies (and possibly also to other interdisciplinary programs, depending on the applicant’s strengths). Indications of a promising scholarly trajectory in the applicant’s areas of expertise are also expected.
We invite applications from candidates with a doctorate (in hand or expected by August 2020) from a range of departments and disciplines, not necessarily Religious Studies. The teaching load is 2/2 in the first year, and 3/2 thereafter.
As part of your cover letter, please address how your scholarship, teaching, mentoring and/or community service support Lafayette’s commitment to diversity and inclusion as articulated in the college’s diversity statement (https://about.lafayette.edu/diversity-statement/). Those applicants attending the November 2019 American Academy of Religion in San Diego should indicate this in their cover letter. Applicants should upload the cover letter with c.v., teaching statement, and a writing sample (e.g., a chapter or article, 25 pages maximum), and arrange for three confidential letters of reference to be uploaded to [apply.interfolio.com/63760], by October 31. Inquiries about this position may be made to Eric Ziolkowski, Head of the Department of Religious Studies.
