The Environmental Science and Environmental Studies Programs at Lafayette College invite applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Environmental Studies beginning July 1, 2023. We seek a colleague with a background in environmental humanities or humanist social sciences with teaching and research interests in environmental justice, philosophy, ethics, Indigenous studies, global ecologies, or a related field.

The successful applicant will join a growing multidisciplinary program that integrates faculty, students, and Office of Sustainability staff to explore environmental issues on campus and beyond. The Environmental Programs are interested in building a culturally diverse intellectual community. We hope this position will complement existing program strengths and broaden the curriculum in Environmental Studies.

The successful candidate will have: a commitment to undergraduate, liberal arts education; a strong interest in and/or experience working in collaborative interdisciplinary settings; a plan to develop an active research program that engages undergraduate students; and a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. Teaching responsibilities will include participation in teaching introductory and capstone courses, as well as an intermediate-level course in Environmental Justice and an advanced course in the candidate’s area of expertise. A Ph.D. is required before the position begins, and post-doctoral research, teaching, or mentoring experience is helpful.

To apply, candidates should submit a letter of application, cv, a teaching philosophy that includes approaches for reaching interdisciplinary audiences, a research statement that includes plans for undergraduate involvement, and three confidential letters of reference via the  Interfolio interface: http://apply.interfolio.com/115904. (For ABD applicants, one letter should be from the dissertation supervisor, indicating progress toward completion of the degree.) As part of the application letter, please address how your scholarship, teaching, mentoring and/or community service support Lafayette’s commitment to diversity and inclusion articulated in the college’s diversity statement (https://about.lafayette.edu/diversity-statement/). For full  consideration, please submit application materials by December 16th, 2022.  Please direct any questions to search committee chair Megan Rothenberger, rothenbm@lafayette.edu.
